Who owns the water and sewer in Palm Beach Gardens?
Not the city. Seacoast Utility Authority is a not-for-profit governmental regional utility that supplies water, wastewater and reclaimed water to roughly 56,000 households and 2,700 commercial premises across about sixty-five square miles of northern Palm Beach County. Its area covers Palm Beach Gardens along with North Palm Beach, Lake Park, Juno Beach and unincorporated county.
That means two organizations for one job. The city building department handles the permit, and Seacoast reviews plans and monitors construction of water, sewer and reclaimed water work inside its service area, with its own permit application under the sewer service policy.
The other thing worth knowing is how young the built city is. Palm Beach Gardens was announced in 1959 by the insurance magnate John D. MacArthur as a garden city, and the 1960 census recorded exactly one resident. Everything standing here was built after that.
