Dispatch takes the address, stays on the line while you find the shut-off, and routes a plumber who knows this city runs its own water, sewer and storm drainage.
How much does the age of a Cooper City house vary?
More than the size of the city suggests. Morris Cooper founded the community and it took his name, incorporating in June 1959 with 550 residents by 1960. It reached over 34,000 by 2020, almost all of that in the late twentieth century, and it was still annexing land as recently as 2006 when the Waldrep Dairy Farm was taken in.
So in eight square miles there is an original core old enough for cast iron drains, a large body of late twentieth-century subdivisions on PVC, and land that was agricultural until this century and carries the newest infrastructure in the city.
The utility is simpler than the housing. The city runs its own water, sewer and storm drain systems, so the utility and the building department are the same government and the first call is the same one whichever it turns out to be.

What is under these houses
Cooper City grew steadily rather than in a single boom, which shows in the pipe.
The community took his name and incorporated on 20 June 1959, with 550 residents recorded in 1960.
Over 34,000 residents, almost all of that growth arriving in the late twentieth century, which straddles the point where drain material changed.
The Waldrep Dairy Farm was brought in that year, which added land that had never been residential and now carries the newest infrastructure in the city.
The Utilities Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the city water, sewer and storm drain systems.
Between Davie, Pembroke Pines and Southwest Ranches, on the same low, level land as the rest of southwest Broward.
How it fails here
One for each of the three eras inside eight square miles.
The oldest sections date from when the city had a few hundred residents, which puts them in the cast iron era. The bore roughens from the inside and clearing the blockage leaves the cause.
Ask for a camera before a third clearing.
Cast iron replacementWhere a neighborhood went up in one phase, the water heaters, angle stops and braided supply lines went in together and reach the end of their service life together rather than one at a time.
Replace supply lines before the tank fails.
Water heater replacementAt seven feet on flat drained ground there is no fall for escaping water to follow. It spreads through fill until a seam in the floor lets it up, which is rarely above the break.
Have it located before anything is opened.
Leak detectionWhere we work
Three eras in eight square miles.
What existed when the city had 550 residents, and the only part old enough for cast iron drains under the slab rather than PVC.
Later planned communities from the growth decades, built in phases so whole streets share a build date and their fittings reach the end of a service life together.
Annexed in 2006, land that was agricultural until recently, which carries the newest infrastructure anywhere in the city.
Who owns what
One city government running all of it.

Had a really slow drain in my bathroom and it was driving me crazy. The guy who came out was super chill and found a bunch of hair and gunk clogging it up. He cleared it out in like 20 minutes, and now it’s draining faster than before! …

The build year, and it varies more here than the city size suggests. The original core is 1950s and 1960s, most of the city is late twentieth century, and the land annexed in 2006 is newer than the city itself in infrastructure terms.
The city. The Cooper City Utilities Department runs the water, sewer and storm drain systems, so the utility and the building department are the same government and there is only one first call.
In the planned communities, yes. Where a neighborhood was built in one phase, the water heaters and supply fittings went in within a year or two of each other and they tend to reach the end of their lives that way too.
